About CMSCrawler

CMSCrawler.com is a project from Infobyte to find out which web publishing tools that are the most popular in different parts of the World. We visits hundreds of thousands websites all over the world every day and try to identify what publishing tool a site is built with or published with. We currently identifies more almost 500 ECM- and CMS-systems, file based publishing tools and e-commerce solutions.

In addition to information about publishing tools, we look also at some SEO-related issues, we know, for example if a site have a proper heading structure and how well the sites validate with the W3C validator. We do not publish that information yet because it can be difficult to interpret and it is not clear if well constructed sites depend on the utility or the built site.

History of CMSCrawler

In June 2009 we started an internal leads generation project trying to identify "dead" CMS-solutions at our home market (Sweden). It was successful and we told some people about our project, the word spread and we got more and more questions about the marketing share situation for CMS-solutions in Sweden.

Early 2010 we began to scan our neighbour countries and later 2010 we started to scan all of Europe.

In the autumn 2010 the first version of www.cmscrawler.com opened and we also began to send out tweets when we dedected that someone switched publishing tool.

In december 2011 we started to crawl for web sites all over the World and in January 2012 this version of the web site was opened.
